Great Vintage Port Tasting

Vintage 1982

The Wine Society 18% had a Great Tasting on the 20th of November 2014 of the 1982 Vintage. We tasted 34 brands/houses out of 39 houses that declared the Vintage 1982. However, we know of 66 different brands from the 1982 so we still missed a lot. See more information about the 1982 Vintage here.

We think our Great Tasting was very valuable to compare the different houses and also get a good picture of the vintage as a whole. 1982 was a split declaration with 1983 and considered as inferior to this vintage even if some houses preferred to declare 1982, such as for example Quinta do Noval, Sandeman and some others. We think this vintage was Good to Very Good (see our vintage ratings). Suckling gave it 84 points, Broadbent *** at best **** stars out of five, and Decanter 3 out of 5 points.

In our tasting most of the ports were mature and some even a bit old but quite a few were still on their peak and wonderful to enjoy and will continue to be so for quite some years. For example Ferreira, Ramos Pinto and Quinta Sao Luiz from Kopke were excellent as were some others.
