Great Vintage Port Tasting

Vintage 1980

This vintage is a classic Vintage with 31 houses i.e, almost all producers declaring it. It was a good vintage and their good qualities has never been questioned, but have been shadowed by 1977, 1983 and 1985. It was a wet winter and spring but a dry and hot summer and picking started in the end of September. The wines were firm with well-focused fruit and lovely backbone and they were deep purple and fruity, rich in tannins, and with a good aging capacity.

Broadbent gave this vintage *** out of 5*, Suckling 87 points out of 100 and we rank it as ‘Very good’. See more info about the vintage 1980 here.

The Wine Society 18% had a Great Tasting 3 April 2014 of the vintage 1980 of 25 Houses. We were 18 participants. The tasting was semi-blind i.e. we know which houses participate but not what we had in the glass.
