Factory House
The British Factory House , also known as the British Association House, is an 18th-century building in Porto and is associated with the British port wine producers. The first Factory House dates back to 1727 and the actual building was constructed later in the 18th century and was funded by British Port merchants. Meeting places for foreign merchants, so called factors, were during the 17th and 18th century very common and was used to strengthen and protect their business. Today seven companies are represented in the association that runs the Factory House, all of course British Port shippers.
Factory house made a Jubilee Vintage Port 1977 to celebrate 250 years since the first charters.
