Sir Walter and Mr. Alfred Gilbey opened a wine shop in Oxford Street in February 1857 and in 1863 their older brother Henry Parry Gilbey joined them. In 1911 the House of Croft was acquired by the Gilbeys, the distinguished English wine trade family, who in 1962 was acquired by International Distillers & Vintners and in 1972 Brewers Watney Mann took over the business, and it was absorbed by Grand Metropolitan the same year. The brands are from 2008 owned by Diageo, formed by the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan. They labelled under their own name so called B.O.B. (Buyers Own Brand).
