This house was founded by a wine-merchant, Mr. Haughton, from St. John’s Gate, Clerkwell who sailed to Oporto in 1715. But the company name came from a clerk from Wales, Aaron Morgan, who during the 1790th jointed the firm and gave the House his name. Morgan is most famous in England due to its brand ‘Dixon Double Diamond’ who was mention in Dicken’s novel of Nicolas Nickelby. 1898 the company reorganised as a private company under the name of Morgan Brothers Ltd and was bought by Croft in 1952. In 1911 the House of Croft was acquired by the Gilbeys, the distinguished English wine trade family.1952 International Destillers & Vintners which is a part of Grand Metropolitan Group, since 1997 part of Diageo, acquired Croft. In 2001 Croft was sold to descendants of two old Port wine families, the Yeatman’s and Fladgate’s. However, the brand Morgan was put to rest at that moment since Diageo also has the rum brand Captain Morgan.
