Quinta Maria Izabel was founded by João Carlos Paes Mendonça. João Carlos works in partnership with the entrepreneur and brother Reginaldo. After many years as an entrepreneur and business man in Brazil, João Carlos decided to buy a quinta in Douro. With Dirk Niepoort as consulting winemaker Quinta Maria Izabel now makes both red and white wine as well as Vintage Port.
