Quinta das Tecedeiras

Lima Smith Lda

Owner Marcelo Lima and Tony Smith

Quinta das Tecedeiras is located on the left bank of the Douro river in Cima Corgo and was first mentioned in documents already in 1720, but then as a “Pesqueira”, or fishing reserve. The quinta was in the past known as Quinta da Teixeira or Teixeira Velha, and reflects the history of the nuns who lived on the property and their cottage industry of weaving flax from the plants that grew here in the past. The estate was part of the vast São Pedro das Águias (St. Peter of the Eagles) convent and covered 150 hectares before the Douro was dammed. It is not known when wine production was started on the quinta but it was before the Phylloxera crisis in the second half of the 19th century.
